BC Gulf Islands Cycling Tour

“A WARM CANADIAN WELCOME TO THE BC GULF ISLANDS CYCLING TOUR.  TAKE IN THE FRESH PACIFIC AIR WHILE YOU EXPLORE ALONG THE WATERS EDGE ON THE SMOOTH, QUIET ROADS”

Our Gulf Islands Cycling tour will take us to three of the most spectacular islands in the Gulf Islands archipelago.  Ferries will deliver us to Salt Spring, Mayne, Pender and Galiano Islands for some wonderful road riding along coastal roads, where views of the water are never far away.  We also take the time to explore the Saanich Peninsula of beautiful Vancouver Island.  The world-class cycling is interrupted only by opportunities to hike, sea kayak and observe the local area wildlife.

The rolling hills on these gorgeous islands will help you work up an appetite.  With sumptuous dinners and desserts at local artisan restaurants; you will be sleeping soundly in comfortable bed-and-breakfast style accommodations. Our trip is fully supported with skilled guides and backup vehicle, so we are free to stop in the small villages along the way to savor the local lifestyle.

The Gulf Islands Cycling Tour has a maximum of 12 guests.  This is a great option for a team-building activity, or family getaway, with the ability to tailor the itinerary to your needs.

You should be confident cyclist and have experience riding road bikes over moderate distance.  This tour features optional ‘long ride’ days for those after some extra distance.  Our Gulf Islands Cycling tour also includes the use of a new Cervelo road bike.  We can also accommodate riders who would prefer to bring their own bike for the trip.

Often referred to as the “gem of the gulf” Galiano is as rich in history as it is in natural beauty. We begin the day with a circumnavigation of the island with stops at the famous Active Pass Lighthouse, Miners Bay, shell and pebble beaches. The ride is hilly and challenging, but only 19 miles and the unique ecology of the island makes for fascinating rest stops. After our ride it's back to the ferry and time to jump across to Pender Island.

Salt Spring Island

Named for its 14 cold mineral laden springs, Salt Spring Island’s residents are an eclectic mix of artists, musicians and entrepreneurs – they even have their own monetary currency! Farming is paramount on this island, which bills itself as the Organic Gardening Capital of Canada. Farms include sheep and lamb products, poultry, llamas, cheese, fruit orchards, and certified organic growers. One of the day’s highlights is a side trip to the beach at Southey Point. We wind through old growth forest to a magical beach where hot sandbars warm the rising tide, often allowing for balmy swimming.

Revel in the wind whistling through your helmet as you sail down the final hill to catch the ferry to Swartz Bay. A short 30 minute ferry ride will land you on the Saanich Peninsula where we will continue the ride south towards Victoria. Ride back into Victoria to wrap up the trip and say goodbye to your guides.
  • Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
  • Activities: Biking (30-50miles).
  • Overnight: On Own

ID & Credit Card: We’ll need to check your ID and credit card details when you pick up your bike (even if you book online).  Please be sure you have a government issued photo ID and a valid credit card for bike security (Debit and VISA Debit not accepted.)
Helmet: Rental helmets are included with all rentals & tours.
Eyewear: Clear riding glasses are best for the Whistler forests.  Sunglasses will do the trick also, but may be a little dark.  We have a great range of Ryders and SPY Optics in store.
Outerwear: A light jacket is handy for cold mornings or rainy days.  You’ll warm up nice and quick while riding, but best to be prepared.
Jersey: Tech, breathable jerseys are recommended to keep you comfortable on the trail.
Backpack & Tools: Small riding bags are perfect to keep the essentials in, we’re a fan of the EVOC bags for riding.  We have a limited selection of hand pumps and tools for rental use, so be sure to bring your riding tools if you’re spending a few days riding.
Gloves: Gloves are essential for comfort and grip on the bike.  We do NOT provide gloves with rentals for hygiene issues.  We have a large selection of suitable gloves in store from Fox and Giro.
Shorts: Knee length shorts are best for biking, allowing ample movement and breathability.  Refrain from wearing jeans or restricting attire.
Shoes & Pedals: We can provide pedals to suit most cycling shoes (Shimano SPD & Crankbrothers) and offer flat pedals as standard.  If you regularly ride ‘clipped in’ we suggest bringing your own pedals – to make sure the engagement is set to your liking.  If you don’t have cycling specific shoes, we will set you up with our standard flat pedals.  Be sure to wear a flat sole skate style shoe for best results.
Medication & Other essentials: Make sure to bring any medication you might need and of course; don’t forget your camera!
